about

The topic in Plato's dialogue "Kratylos" is the correctness of the names / designations (ὀρθότης τῶν ὀνομάτων): Is it based on nature / essence (φύσις) or in agreement and agreement (συνθήκη καὶ ὁμολογία).

The first, the physei thesis, asserts a natural direct relationship between the words and the thing; every being thing has a name with natural correctness / with a correctness inherent in nature (φύσει). A natural development of correct names is claimed.

The second, the thesei thesis (θέσει) denies this and claims that the names / designations arise through convention (appointment, agreement, custom; through determination and custom).

One background is the opposition (the antithesis) of nomos and physis (νόμος = custom, custom, origin, habit; law, statute; φύσις = natural constitution, nature, essence), which is also used as the opposition of thesis (θέσις = the setting, Set up) and physique can be expressed.

The dialogue asks about the conditions for an appropriate information transfer for a name-thing relationship, which allows a correct assignment of a name to a thing. The physei thesis is directed (through the dialogue figure Socrates) to the question of appropriateness by means of a tool model (speaking and naming as a means of naming and communication). In his dialogue "Kratylos", Plato suggests a relationship between names and ideas as actually named. There are approaches to a three-digit model (word, idea, thing / thing).

According to Plato's considerations, a distinction must be made between the sound form and the meaning of the name. The concrete sound form is conventional. The real objects of language are thought contents.

It is time for rediscovering the fundamental truth that we depend on nature. We are nature.

Please listen with soft levels due to the dynamic range throughout the album and remember that even though full of textures and activity, it's not usually loud.
